School Highlight The End Term Jury at the School of Design The School of Design just wrapped up its End Term Jury for the ‘Designing Visual Identity’ course, a major milestone for 3rd-year students. This exciting event gave students the chance to showcase their creative branding projects, designing visual identities for imaginary brands. From logos and color palettes to typography and mockups, they put their design skills to the test!
A panel of esteemed faculty—Dr. Anirrban Ghosh, Prof. Anurag Khare, Prof. Pravin Mishra, Mr. Shyam Singh, and Prof. Kaustubh Kirtane—carefully reviewed each presentation. Students walked them through their design journey, explaining the ideas, thought processes, and final branding systems they developed. The jury provided valuable feedback, offering praise, suggestions, and constructive criticism to help students refine their work. This event was not just about grades; it was a celebration of creativity, learning, and innovation. The School of Design continues to emphasize hands-on experience, pushing students to transform theoretical knowledge into real-world design solutions. |

STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS Rahul Purohit’s Smart Calculator – A Business-Friendly Innovation
Rahul Purohit, a first-year student at Vijaybhoomi School of Science and Technology, has developed Smart Calculator, a Python-based application designed to simplify business transactions for small shopkeepers and businesses. Going beyond basic arithmetic, this tool tracks cash flow, manages customer transactions, and streamlines daily operations with a clean, user-friendly PyQt5-powered UI. One of its standout features is real-time data synchronization with Firebase, ensuring seamless integration with a dedicated Android companion app. This functionality allows businesses to access transaction data anytime, anywhere, making financial management more efficient. For Rahul, building Smart Calculator was a transformative experience. The project challenged him to think beyond coding and focus on real-world problem-solving. He gained valuable expertise in Python, UI/UX design, Firebase integration, and system architecture, pushing his technical and creative boundaries. What started as a university assignment has now evolved into something much bigger. Rahul envisions enhancing and expanding the project to offer even more tech-driven solutions for businesses. His journey is a testament to how innovation and determination can lead to impactful creations. We eagerly await his next breakthrough in the world of technology and entrepreneurship! |
STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS TSM Album Release Pratyush Goswami, also known as ALBSTREW, a Production major student, released his EP Purgatory, consisting of three tracks, on March 7th, 2025. He showcased the EP at Spotlight Blue at Vijaybhoomi University. The tracks were released on all major music streaming platforms. The EP Purgatory draws heavy inspiration from horror VHS tapes, particularly The Blair Witch Project, which he watched last year. The theme of the EP revolves around demonology, witchcraft, and similar dark elements. From a sound design perspective, ALBSTREW cites Svdden Death and Code Pandorum as key influences. These artists played a significant role in shaping his approach to dubstep and its many subgenres. While designing the screeches in Showdown, he aimed to replicate the intensity of a death-metal scream or a monstrous roar. Meanwhile, with the track Purgatory, he took a more minimalistic approach, leaning towards a lighter dubstep style.

FACULTY का FUNDA In the Shadows of Imitation Prof. Kaustubh Kirtane, School of Design, Vijaybhoomi University |
Let's talk about why so many designs look the same these days, instead of being fresh and new. Everything suddenly looks "Ghibli-ish," like those beautiful, hand-drawn Japanese movies. It's everywhere – on phone filters, in building designs. It's nice, sure, but it makes you wonder, why does everyone just copy that style instead of coming up with their own? Then you hear stories, like the one about the design school director who supposedly took his students' work and said it was his. That's just plain wrong. It tells you that sometimes, people care more about getting ahead than about being original or giving credit where it's due. Why does this happen? Well, it's easier to copy something that's already popular. With computers and the internet, copying is super easy. And sometimes, people just don't think it's a big deal to borrow and steal ideas. In contrast, think about Indian art like Madhubani or Warli. Even though people have used those styles in all sorts of things, they still feel unique. Why? · They're part of a story: These art forms aren't just pretty pictures; they're tied to the history and traditions of specific communities. That makes them hard to copy perfectly. · They have their own language: The way they're made, the symbols they use – it's all part of a deeper meaning. You can't just copy the look without understanding what it means. · The people who made them still own them: The communities that created these art forms keep making them, keep changing them, and keep them alive. So, while it's easy to copy a trendy look, it's much harder to copy something that comes with story attached to deep traditions. It's important to remember that copying might be easy, but being original is what really matters. It's about respecting the people who create things and valuing new ideas.
